The Yemeni Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani, exposed the Houthis’ claims that they are under siege, confirming that these lies aim to evade their responsibilities for the humanitarian disaster they have caused.
Al-Eryani stated in posts on his account on “X”: The numbers and facts confirm that they have exploited one of the largest systems of taxation and parallel economy to sustain the war and finance external projects, while leaving millions of Yemenis facing poverty, hunger, and salary cuts.
He clarified that since their coup against the state, the militia has seized all sovereign revenues in the areas under their control, including oil and gas revenues, the revenues from the ports of Hodeidah, Salif, and Ras Issa, customs, taxes, zakat, telecommunications, and tobacco, in addition to dozens of illegal taxes imposed on citizens, traders, and the private sector, establishing a parallel economy outside state institutions, with estimated revenues exceeding 103 billion dollars, in addition to more than three billion dollars looted during the first four months of this year.

Al-Eryani explained that despite these massive resources, the militia refused to pay the salaries of hundreds of thousands of state employees in their areas of control, while spending billions of dollars on purchasing weapons, missiles, and drones, funding recruitment operations, enriching their leaders, and building closed economic networks that monopolize trade, import, fuel, telecommunications, and real estate, turning the wealth of Yemenis into a permanent source of funding for their coup project.
He pointed out that the continued flow of commercial ships and oil derivative vessels to the ports of Hodeidah, and the entry of hundreds of ships under the United Nations mechanism, conclusively refutes the militia’s claims of “siege,” emphasizing: “The problem has never been about the arrival of resources, but rather about the entity that seizes them, and how they are utilized away from the interests of citizens, turning them into fuel for war and a tool for extorting the international community.”
He added: The militia is today returning to invoke the same narrative, trying to use the slogan of “siege” as a cover to justify escalation and threaten international navigation and global energy security, while the truth is that the one who has truly besieged the Yemenis is the Houthi coup, which has confiscated state resources, plundered public revenues, cut salaries, imposed taxes, closed the doors to development, and plunged the country into one of the worst humanitarian and economic crises in the world.
The Minister of Information clarified that the facts confirm that the suffering of citizens has never been part of the Houthi militia’s calculations; rather, it has always been and continues to be merely a means for political and media investment, and a bargaining chip to serve an external agenda, explaining that whenever the Houthis’ supporters need an escalation in the Red Sea or to exert pressure on the international community, the militia hastens to fabricate new pretexts, while the Yemenis alone pay the price of these adventures with their livelihoods, security, and future.
Al-Eryani emphasized in his remarks that whenever the militia talks about the humanitarian situation in Yemen, they must answer the fundamental question: Where did more than 103 billion dollars of the revenues seized by the militia since their coup go? And why were they not allocated for paying salaries, improving services, and alleviating the suffering of citizens?
