أعلنت السلطات الصحية في ولاية كولورادو الأمريكية، مساء (الإثنين)، وفاة شخص بالغ بعد إصابته المؤكدة بفايروس «هانتا»، مؤكدة أن الحالة لا ترتبط بالتفشي الأخير الذي شهدته سفينة سياحية في المحيط الأطلسي.
وقالت إدارة الصحة العامة والبيئة في كولورادو، في بيان رسمي، إن السلالة التي تسببت في الوفاة تُسجل بشكل معتاد في الولاية خلال هذا الوقت من العام، مشيرة إلى أن التحقيقات لا تزال جارية لتحديد مصدر التعرض للفايروس.
ويُعرف فايروس «هانتا» بأنه ينتقل في الأساس عبر القوارض، إلا أن انتقاله بين البشر قد يحدث في حالات نادرة وعند وجود مخالطة وثيقة ومطولة للمصابين، كما قد تمتد فترة حضانة الفايروس إلى نحو ستة أسابيع قبل ظهور الأعراض.
وفي سياق متصل، رست السفينة السياحية الهولندية «إم في هونديوس» في ميناء روتردام يوم الإثنين، بعدما كانت تقل نحو 150 راكبًا وأفراد طاقم من 23 دولة، عقب تسجيل مجموعة من الإصابات التنفسية الحادة على متنها.
وكانت منظمة الصحة العالمية قد تلقت أول بلاغ عن الحالات المرضية على السفينة في الثاني من مايو الجاري.
ووفقًا للمنظمة، فقد أسفر التفشي حتى الآن عن وفاة ثلاثة أشخاص، إضافة إلى تسجيل ثماني حالات مؤكدة وحالتين محتملتين للإصابة بالفايروس على متن السفينة.
The health authorities in the state of Colorado, USA, announced on Monday evening the death of an adult after confirmed infection with the “Hanta” virus, confirming that the case is not related to the recent outbreak that occurred on a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment stated in an official statement that the strain responsible for the death is typically recorded in the state during this time of year, noting that investigations are still ongoing to determine the source of exposure to the virus.
The “Hanta” virus is primarily known to be transmitted through rodents, although transmission between humans can occur in rare cases and with close and prolonged contact with infected individuals. The incubation period for the virus may extend up to about six weeks before symptoms appear.
In a related context, the Dutch cruise ship “MV Hondius” docked at the port of Rotterdam on Monday, after carrying about 150 passengers and crew members from 23 countries, following the reporting of a number of acute respiratory infections on board.
The World Health Organization had received the first report of the illness cases on the ship on May 2nd of this year.
According to the organization, the outbreak has so far resulted in the death of three people, in addition to recording eight confirmed cases and two potential cases of infection with the virus on board the ship.
