رغم تصاعد المواجهات والضربات المتبادلة بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران، كثف الوسطاء جهودهم لخفض التصعيد. وكشفت وسائل إعلام إيرانية أن باكستان وقطر اقترحتا العودة إلى الوضع الذي كان قبل تجدد التصعيد في التاسع من يوليو الجاري، كخطوة أولى نحو استئناف المفاوضات، فيما نقلت وكالة «رويترز» عن مسؤول إيراني كبير قوله إن الوسطاء عرضوا على طهران مقترحاً جديداً بـ«هدنة مؤقتة» لمدة 10 أيام. وذكرت وكالة أنباء الطلبة الإيرانية (إيسنا) أن باكستان وقطر قدمتا اقتراحهما المشترك، أمس (الإثنين)، في حين أشار المتحدث باسم الخارجية الإيرانية إسماعيل بقائي إلى «بعض الأفكار التي تعمل طهران عليها»، حسبما أوضحت الوكالة. وأعلن خلال مؤتمر صحفي أن الوسطاء نقلوا رسائل لطهران خلال الأيام القليلة الماضية. في غضون ذلك، التقى وزير الداخلية الإيراني إسكندر مومني في إسلام آباد أمس رئيس الوزراء الباكستاني شهباز شريف، وقائد الجيش عاصم منير، ونظيره محسن نقوي، الذين يقودون جهود الوساطة الباكستانية في المفاوضات. وأكد مسؤولون باكستانيون أن هذه الزيارة الطارئة تُشير إلى رغبة إيران في وقف إطلاق النار. وكان وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو أعلن مساء الأحد أن الولايات المتحدة لا تزال منفتحة على حل دبلوماسي في إيران. وأضاف: «إذا فُتح هذا الباب فسنرحب بذلك»، لافتاً إلى أن إيران «لا تزال ترسل إشارات بأنها تريد التحدث والتفاوض». من جانبها، شنت القيادة المركزية الأمريكية أمس الموجة التاسعة من الضربات على إيران، استهدفت خلالها مراكز القيادة العسكرية الإيرانية، ومواقع الدفاع الجوي والمراقبة الساحلية، والقدرات البحرية، ومواقع إطلاق الصواريخ والطائرات المسيّرة، وشبكات الاتصالات، بهدف مواصلة تقليص قدرة إيران على مهاجمة السفن التجارية والبحّارة المدنيين العابرين لمضيق هرمز. وأفصحت الإدارة الأمريكية عن هوية جنديين قُتلا في عملية عسكرية الأسبوع الماضي ضمن الحرب مع إيران. وأعلنت وزارة الحرب في بيان أن الفيرست ليفتانينت تايلر جيمس فيهان (25 عامًا) من إيوا بيتش بولاية هاواي، والجندية إيزابيلا غونزاليس (19 عامًا) من كارولتون بولاية تكساس قُتلا في الأردن، حيث كانا يدعمان مهمة أمريكية ضد تنظيم داعش. ولم تتضح بعد ملابسات مقتلهما، بحسب ما أوردت وكالة «أسوشييتد برس».
Despite the escalation of confrontations and mutual strikes between the United States and Iran, mediators have intensified their efforts to de-escalate. Iranian media revealed that Pakistan and Qatar proposed returning to the situation that existed before the renewed escalation on July 9, as a first step towards resuming negotiations. Meanwhile, Reuters reported a senior Iranian official stating that the mediators offered Tehran a new proposal for a “temporary ceasefire” lasting 10 days. The Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) mentioned that Pakistan and Qatar presented their joint proposal yesterday (Monday), while Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqaei referred to “some ideas that Tehran is working on,” as clarified by the agency. He announced during a press conference that the mediators had conveyed messages to Tehran in the past few days. In the meantime, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni met in Islamabad yesterday with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Army Chief Asim Munir, and his counterpart Mohsen Naqvi, who are leading the Pakistani mediation efforts in the negotiations. Pakistani officials confirmed that this emergency visit indicates Iran’s desire for a ceasefire. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Sunday evening that the United States remains open to a diplomatic solution in Iran. He added, “If this door opens, we will welcome it,” pointing out that Iran “is still sending signals that it wants to talk and negotiate.” For its part, the U.S. Central Command launched the ninth wave of strikes on Iran yesterday, targeting Iranian military command centers, air defense sites, coastal surveillance, naval capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communication networks, aiming to continue reducing Iran’s ability to attack commercial ships and civilian sailors transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. administration disclosed the identities of two soldiers killed in a military operation last week as part of the war with Iran. The Department of Defense announced in a statement that First Lieutenant Tyler James Vihan (25) from Iowa Beach, Hawaii, and Private Isabella Gonzalez (19) from Carrollton, Texas, were killed in Jordan, where they were supporting a U.S. mission against ISIS. The circumstances of their deaths remain unclear, according to the Associated Press.
